What a lively night of trivia at T. Phillips! Newcomers, regulars, fun and cheers abounded as it was anybody's game! Some played just for laughs, others laughed while playing for keeps, but it was pretty great all around.
Newcomers The Chum Buckettes were the entertainers of the night, writing in "Africa" by Toto as their stock answer for questions they didn't know, and occasionally "my dad". I had to call them out on it, which brought rousing cheers and laughs from all, and then, "Africa" by Toto came on the radio right after I said it! So I hiked up the volume and said, "this one's for you!", which brought hoops and hollers from all around the room.
Beaver Cam won by one point with a 51 against Mischief Managed's 2nd place 50, but boy was is a close race, as they were neck and neck for the first 4 rounds. Literally, both teams got 5, 10, 12, and 10 as surprisingly, they both got one wrong in round 1 and it wasn't looking good, as newcomers Camellos doubled down and got a 12 out the gate! Then 6 teams, including Mischief and Beaver got 5s across the board for round 2 with only newbies Forgettng Sarah Palin getting a 6, highest score in the round.
Then suddenly, in round 3, most teams started dropping back with mostly 3s, 4s, and one 5, and Beaver and Mischief shot away from the pack, both doubling down and getting 12s! then round 4 came up, and both teams got the 10 point clue, tying for the lead with 32s! In fact, an unprecedented 5 teams got the 10 point clue but only Camellos were close enough to catch them by that time with 29.
Team No Clue started gaining ground with a pair of 8s, and managed to finish 4th. They reminded me if they'd just flipped 2 answers and doubled down in round 6, they'd have won by a point, proving anything can happen. Even though there were some good rallies, including "152"'s impressive 9 in round 6, -the highest score in the round- there was no catching Mischief Managed and Beaver Cam, who battled it out and went back and forth for the rest of the game, til the winner was a complete surprise, Beaver Cam by a single point! What a race!

Holy cow, what a night for trivia!! Not only did the Dodgers just bomb on everyone, but so did Mischief Manged!! They took a lead with some early double downs and never looked back! Well, the may have taken a glance or two, because as the evening went on, there were more teams scoring high, and taking their shot at doubling down. But it was round 6 that was the make it or break it round!! Almost every team got a perfect score, but only about half doubled down!! It was an exciting night for sure, and I thank these fine folks for having me as their sub emcee for the evening! Kudos to our winners, and cheers to all our teams!

The night was epic at T.Phillips on Thursday, as it seemed like anybody's game right up til the end. Dept. of Doom, Be Kind Rewind, and Tom Bombadil started crazy strong out the gate, both doubling down and getting 12s. NRBC, Bunco Bitches and Mischief Managed, however all got 5 in the first round. Dept of Doom pulled way ahead early doubling down in the first 3 rounds and winning them all with 12, 26, and 12 respectively. Bunco Bitches may have got a 5 in round one but then started nipping at Doom's heels but getting doubles in 2 and 3. Be Kind Rewind stopped doubling down with 7, 6, and 6 in rounds 2, 3, and 4 and it was looking like they might be caught. And Dept. of Doom did catch them, pulling way ahead of Rewind by 15 points in rounds 3 and 4, and still kept a slight lead in 5, despite the fact they got a 9 and Rewind made massive ground with a 20. Then the game just got flipped on it's head, when Dept. of Doom miscalculated a double or nothing bet in round 6 and got a 0. Be Kind Rewind got a 10 in that round, then 18, and finished the night as our big winners with 79! Dept. of Doom however, despite their 0, did so great early on that they managed to still finish 2nd with a 63, boy what a night! And to top it all off, newcomers Bunco Bitches brought the power and enthusiasm and got 3rd place with 58. You go, girls!
