IN CRUST WE TRUST

Consider us your neighborhood pizza parlor with a gourmet twist. We visited some of the greatest pizzerias on the West Coast, took the best parts of each, and brought them to Visalia as best we could. Then we added our own Central Valley twist. The end result is our menu of  hearty, flavorful pizzas made with the freshest ingredients, locally sourced whenever possible. From the adventurous “Thai Pie” to the customer favorite “Kitchen Sink”, there’s truly something for all types of pizza lovers. We rounded out our menu with a variety of signature sandwiches, farm fresh salads, and delicious appetizers like our bruschetta and artichoke fritters.

Then there’s the beer. Twenty-one taps of fresh craft beer and cider plus a massive variety of cans and bottles.

At The Planing Mill, we are committed to providing great food and guest service in a comfortable, family friendly atmosphere. We are also dedicated to serving our community through our monthly “Pizza with a Purpose” non-profit fundraisers and other efforts.

Come see our spacious new location, complete with outdoor patio and lawn area. We think you’ll find The Planing Mill to be a pretty fun place to eat, drink and be merry with friends and family!

But don’t just take our word for it. In 2017, the Visalia Chamber of Commerce named us Small Business of the Year!

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

A lot of people see our name and spend the next few seconds trying to say it. Let us help. It’s pronounced “PLAIN-ing” Mill, though there’s certainly nothing “plain” about us!

So why the name? Our first location was part of the original Visalia Planing Mill. Founded in 1851, the mill crafted specialty wood products for generations of Visalians. In fact, many older homes and businesses in town have doors and cabinets that were hand-crafted right here on our property. In honor of this legacy, and as a reflection of our commitment to artisanship, the name fit perfectly.

A night of mass doubling caused Tequila Mockingbird to come within reach of the all-time Planing Mill trivia record of 86 points! They started the night with successful doubles in Rounds 1 and 2 to take an early lead, but Burt Reynolds's Ghost kept it close, heading into the break down by only three. But Tequila Mockingbird broke the game wide open with a successful double in Round 5 and a perfect 10 in Round 6, making tonight a battle for second place. Dr. Google threw their hat into that ring with a double of their own in Round 5, ultimately finishing six points off the lead. Burt Reynolds's Ghost, holder of the house record that was in jeopardy, took third, but kept their record intact.

With Tequila Mockingbird and Burt Reynolds's Ghost going their separate ways, it was anyone's game tonight at the Planing Mill. Reynolds opened up a small lead early and maintained it throughout the game. In the battle for second, Cassidy and Sundance made their inaugural appearance in the top three, finishing second with a perfect Round 6 in which they matched fictitious foods with movies and TV shows. Little Lebowski's Urban Achievers picked up third place in a tiebreaker after missing on a double early, but making up ground in a slow and steady manner throughout the rest of the game. As Steve Harvey would say, we had ourselves a good one tonight!

Much like peanut butter with jelly and chicken with waffles, two great teams came together to make an unstoppable combination tonight at the Planing Mill. Tequila Mockingbird and Burt Reynolds's Ghost combined to form Tequila Reynolds and overcome all competition. They entered the second half of the game tied with Dr. Google for first place, with The Revenge of Bimbo Baggins just a point behind. However, both the newly formed Tequila Reynolds, You're a Quizzard Harry, and Raiders of the Lost Facts pulled off successful doubles in Round 6, causing Tequila Reynolds and Quizzard Harry to be in a two-team race for the finish. Tequila Reynolds won with a strong showing in Round 7 with their knowledge of NBA scorers, and much like Round 7 answer LeBron James going to the Heat in 2010, formed a superteam.
