As I walked into Barfood this fine Sunday afternoon, there was an unfamiliar energy. I looked around the room and saw the remnants of the Game of Thrones theme night that happened the night before. There were banners with strange names on them that I assumed were characters, clans, or even locations from the Game of Thrones universe (I don't watch GoT).  "Maybe that's what's causing this weird sensation in my bones," I thought to myself as I set up my PA system.  Was it really just the lingering energy from the Game of Thrones fans?  Or was winter truly coming?

I tested the microphone and pushed play on my kick-ass Spotify playlist, but I couldn't shake the feeling.  Something was different.  Not a bad kind of "different". But a "different" that inspires movies like Baby Driver.  Just pure, dominant manliness. By the end of the first round, one by one, people began turning in their answers with uncontrollable force.  The foreign ambience was infecting the entire bar!  It was becoming a little scary.  But then, the answer to all the odd behavior and feelings came across my desk in the form of a team name:  Dan Mitchell Has Come!!!  Yes that's right, the team commonly referred to as Dan Mitchell A Team (or some variety of a Dan Mitchell reference) was actually joined by the one and only Dan Mitchell.  At first I didn't want to believe it.  I have been fooled before.  But almost as if to pacify my doubt, another team name came across my desk to settle the matter: Dan Mitchell IS Here!!  Two teams names with Dan Mitchell in it?  That settled the entire mystery.  Dan Mitchell was, in fact, in the room!  A man who's name I read aloud so many times and yet never had the chance to meet.  I FINALLY got to put the name to the face and, by George, it was an invigorating experience.  His presence, however, seemed to come and go as fast as a Taylor Swift romance.  He sneaked up to my desk in the middle of the 5th round, shook my hand, and disappeared into the night.  I didn't even have a chance to get a picture of him.  I did get a chance to get a picture of the winning team tonight: Eat Me I'm a Danish.  But not the urban legend himself.  Farewell, Dan Mitchell, wherever you are.  It was an honor reading trivia questions to you and your friends.  Until we meet again; Godspeed.

GAME OF THRONES THEMED EVENT RECAP

BarFood was PACKED with Game of Thrones fans, the walls were festooned with house banners, and the competition was as fierce as ever.  We were even blessed by an appearance by the Mother of Dragons herself! The majority of the quiz was our own version of the Clegane-Bowl, as two teams of heavy-hitters rarely missed a question or clue until the bitter end.

The spirit round involved teams coming up with their best/worst way to die in Westeros, which introduced the crowd to the concept of getting "Little Fingered to Death"

A massive score of 108 was what it took to slay the other 22 teams in attendance, and congratulations to the Cock Merchants on their victory.  They walked away with $280 and they now get to name the Queen of Love and Beauty (don't pick Lyanna).
