A very fun night on what could possibly be the final night of trivia at Slater's 50/50! We had a handful of our usual teams as well as some newcomers, who livened up the game with their unique answers.
Round 2 saw the first of these, when almost no one knew Theon Greyjoy's real name (it's Alfie Allen) so someone threw out the very close "Guy Greyjoy". Kevin Kline saw such creative guesses as "Some Old White Guy", "Jack James", and "Wild Wild West Man". Good to know I can always come to you all for a stage name in the future!
Don't cry for me, Argentina, but none of the teams were very familiar with Eva Peron, so this was an especially low-scoring Round 4 followed by a challenging Round 5 for our teams, with one putting the theme as "Being very hard to answer".
But after some "solid, educated guesses" and a Double or Nothing with every five- or fewer-lettered element on the Periodic Table, the Bombay Ducks squeaked out a win over the Baby Cheeses, who had been winning all night until the very end. Third place went to Butch after figuring out a good number of elements as well, who squeaked out a win of their own over 1401 Flight Crew, returning from the Disneyland-themed event last month.
Thank you all for a great final night! Maybe I'll be back again to sling some trivia at Slater's. But if not, keep playing hard and as I always say...see you next time!

A lot of awesome and fun new teams joined in the fray at Slater's 50/50 this week! They had a tough night against our regulars, but when the dust cleared, there were smiles all around and a lot of people saying they were glad they tried trivia out, which is the highest of compliments if I do say so myself.
But you're here to read about the night, so here we go! Simply put, the Baby Cheeses dominated the night. They started out with two Double or Nothings and kept their lead throughout every round. Mike Tyson's Speech School kept them on their toes towards the end of the night, but it wasn't enough and the aforementioned team squeaked out a win. Round out our Top 3 was returning team, The Mutants Over At Table 9.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we had some valiant attempts by the Bombay Ducks, who guessed Bob Dole three times in Round 2...none of which were right. Vitamin Sea 3 gave me a list of names that sounded like they belonged to "old, white men" including: Jeffrey Beane, Calvin Klein, James Heffield, and George Stephanopolis.
Two quick lessons from the night: everyone needs to learn how to spell "Louvre" and the music scene is still alive with the classics! The Rolling Stones and Journey still got it going on to make it into the Top 12 tours of 2018, in a list that Cardi B would definitely not say was "okurrr".
We also got to try out Survey Slam tonight, which was a blast! The reading out of the answers saw some pretty loud cheers from people who were able to navigate our newest Family Feud-style game and guess the number one answers. But after rejecting broccoli and fighting off 100 duck-sized horses, the only team with a perfect score...was the Baby Cheeses! See, I wasn't lying when I said they dominated tonight! They swept the board and went home with a good number of prizes!
Thanks for coming tonight, everybody! Big shout out to Tough Actin' Tinactin who may have found their newest addiction in trivia nights! See you all next time!

The essence of a great trivia night falls to the teams that are involved and we had a great time amongst the four teams that played trivia at Slater's tonight (plus one more excited participant across the bar who would cheer anytime he got an answer right).
There were some funny visualizations tonight due to some incorrect answers, like the Baby Cheeses saying that Terry Crews had taken over as host of America's Next Top Model from Tyra Banks...let's face it, Terry Crews definitely knows how to smize.
There were also a few new suggestions for Notre Dame's new slogan such as "Win One for the Gipper!" from the Baby Cheeses and "God Chooses Champions" from Consolation Prize.
After being thrown off by Marge Simpson having appeared on the cover of Playboy a few years back, the final curveball came in the final round with the World Cup winners, but after much grumbling and groaning (despite my rule to the contrary...and my offer of an alternate question: "What are the Quizmaster's 10 best qualities?"...which no one took), all of the teams did much better than expected!
As the vuvuzelas wound down (anyone remember those?), Mike Tyson's Speech Schooltook home first prize again! Consolation Prize gets major props for winning second, as they were a brand new team tonight! Hopefully they get on a roll and continue to win Tuesday night dinners in the coming weeks. Baby Cheeses rounded out the Top 3, leaving Barley Knowledgeable to take the great Walk of Shame (TM) to get their revenge next week...maybe...
Hope you all have a great week and we'll see you next time!
