Tonight was the night of Double or Nothing's galore! There were five total successful DoN's, with two coming from the Baby Cheezes! Just goes to show how stiff the competition was tonight as they wound up in a very close fourth place as the game found itself rocketing between tables as everyone jockeyed for the Top 3 and those coveted Slater's gift cards.
It was a rough night for our house champions: Mike Tyson's Speech School. The restaurant was a little short staffed, so we started the game dry while waiting for drinks. Sadly, I could not jump behind the bar due to potential health code violations, so it took until the final round for them to risk it all on a DoN and jump from the middle of the pack into first place! Lesson here for everyone else: watch more crappy TV...this is the only place where that could be a lesson.
For our second place team, Almost Good, this was their first game with King Trivia and they loved it! They had a great time learning the intricacies of our game and now they will never forget that Oksana Baiul does, indeed, come from the Ukraine as that answer secured them their own first DoN!
Rounding out our Top 3 was visiting team Barely Knowledgable, who made a name for themselves after celebrating their own DoN in Round 5 with one teammate shouting from the bathroom...not usually a sign that anything good is happening.
Thanks for a fun night, everyone! See you all again next week!
A relatively low-scoring night, but still a fun one! Welcome to trivia night at Slater's 50/50, where we learn such things as Ripley from the Alien franchise is not Han Solo nor is she Rambo, even though her Lego figure might be ambiguous.
Before the night began, I asked our newest team to keep their name at most PG-13 rated since we had kids around this evening. Aptly, they named themselves...PG-13. Touch?.
The most enjoyable rounds were the wishes/curses, where we all realized how crappy gypsies are in movies; the hidden theme round, since everyone who figured it out really enjoyed writing "BALLS!!!" as the themed answer; and the matching round, where everyone realized how much they hated DJ Khaled's "music".
Then people got creative with countries beginning with "E". From Last of the Avengers, we had the countries of East Land, East of Eden, and East Street Band. From PG-13, the amazing Elbow Island, a sanctuary for macaroni escaping persecution in the form of very hangry people.
When the dust had cleared, Mike Tyson's Speech School had once again claimed victory and their $30 Slater's gift cards! But there remained one more task: the tiebreaker. PG-13 guessed closes to the number of seconds in The Godfather: Part II, thus claiming second place in their first ever game! Sorry, Pear Tree, but due to Price is Right rules, your second place streak was broken...the good news is, third place was yours!
Shout out to Last of the Avengers, who barely weren't able to crack the Top 3 (stupid DJ Khaled...) but came out to play on their vacation from Fresno! Hope you all had a safe trip home!
Have a great week, everybody!

A great turnout tonight at Slater's! And a great introduction to our game for Slater Gators, who were skeptical at first but quickly grew to love it and became the loudest team in the joint! Definitely because of excitement and not anything that they were drinking. Totally...
But it was a great game for all! The teams were very even for a good number of rounds with many two- and three-way ties across the board. It took until Round 5 for the gaps to begin emerging as Mike Tyson's Speech School and Slater Gators both went for a Double or Nothing, but only the former emerged with the points. Unfortunately for our newcomers, "Singapore" instead of "Japan" doomed them to a big, fat zero in their point totals. Also of note, We R as dumb ass we look guessed that the theme of the round was "Marihuana"...which was funny on several levels because, no, that's not a typo.
After Round 7 taught almost every team that China doesn't have very bit exports of cars (at least in 2017), we entered into a tiebreaker round for third place, with Atari Kobayashi emerging with the gift card after beating out We R by 1.1 mph in trying to guess the speed of the fastest MLB pitch ever.
Mike Tyson's Speech School finished on top for the evening with the newly-registered Pear Tree taking home second place, marking both teams' second week in a row finishing in those positions! Great job, all!
See you all next week!
