A real life "Quiet Place" on the Promenade tonight as everyone was taking shelter at home to avoid the cold, the rain, Bohemian Rhapsody's Golden Globes win and that abysmal Eagles game. But the few teams who were brave enough to enter into a deserted Barney's found themselves blissfully surprised at their own intellect as they identified super villains, compared Spotify top ten lists, and eyed the TV for ESPN coverage of WNBA games. Special shoutout to manager, Sharon, who always appreciates the tunes and to the England team, visiting the USA on holiday who were so intrigued by playing "like a game show!" that they stuck around for the entire game and gleefully answered questions even though that jet lag was kicking in reaaaaal good.

We sent 2018 out with a bang at Barney's Santa Monica tonight, 9 teams went head-to-head. The Spanish InQUIZition were unstoppable and took home the $100 first prize. Most teams were stumped by the "smell of celebrity fragrance" round, which only speaks well of them in this quizmaster's estimation 😉 Quizzie McGuire was a family effort, they came second even though 2 of their team members fell ASLEEP, see photo. That place is not quiet either. Impressive. And New Year's Evil Dead managed to secure 3rd, even though they knocked their (tiny) table over THREE TIMES! Also impressive. Shout out to Ham Taro, you know what you know you know what you mean? Your mama didn't raise a quitter. And Mom Jeans didn't know anything about sports but she does know about Hail Mary strategy - she doubled like a superhero on the final sports round despite knowing nothing about sports. Never say die Mom Jeans!

The holiday hit Barney's trivia hard - it was a quiet night. Lucky for the teams that showed up 'cuz they have excellent prizes there. SANTA'S HO HO HOZ shut everybody out, but it was a fun race for second. The WESTSIDE WANKERS were trivia virgins and got the hang of it toward the middle of the game. They picked up speed and almost overtook 2 VENETIANS, they'll definitely be contenders in the fyootch. Everybody was stumped by the meaning of Kwanza, although everyone knows their reindeer 😉
