A very Braveheart-esque send-off for longtime regular Nick who will no longer be attending weekly trivia nights as he is moving with his wife to Scotland where she can pursue her doctorate. Nick has been coming to Barney's Santa Monica for the past 9 years, having previously worked at the Laemmle and wandering into the bar for a drink and staying for the now defunct "Guitar Hero Night". As Guitar Hero faded in popularity, trivia soon took its place and Nick hung around with his friend, James (who also has departed for Seattle - not as far or as cool) and the two had been constant seat warmers at the bar. It won't quite be the same without him but we wish Nick well and we've already been promised a return to trivia around Christmas 2019 so we'll look forward to seeing him - and his kilt - then. Have fun hunting Nessie, old friend!

Our game was a back and forth all evening but let's talk about that drinking round challenge, shall we? The game: to fill in the missing word of a popular song lyric from any decade. From Billy Joel to Backstreet Boys. From The Rolling Stones to Barbara Streisand. And for all of our competing teams' credit, they lasted several rounds before we even began eliminations. From obscure songs to pop hits, our teams hung in there until the very bitter end - and the band to finish it all out? The Beatles. The missing lyric: "boy". As in "oh boy".

A small homecoming but a happy one nonetheless. Nice to see you all having enjoyed your summers, your 5 o'clock Fridays, your non-spray tans, your Italy vacation pictures. Love to hear your stories of your wins and losses, how close you came to winning the drinking round, that one team everyone thought was cheating - but all that? It's in the past. The only thing that matters is right now and we're not pulling any punches.
Trivia is back, baby. And you either know what states contain the Appalachian Trail or you're going home to open up a geography book. If you don't know how all of those things are connected to Lord of the Rings - Lord of the Rings, guys. It was a book series, a movie series, an old Rankin-Bass animation series, going to be a future Amazon Prime series - what are you even doing here? Trudge up the mountain to Mordor and toss yourselves in. This isn't a kids game. This isn't some HQutie bullshit. Nah, this is King Trivia. Time to step it up for the new school year, kids.
