QUIZ RECAP

A slower night down at the old Promenade but not every trivia needs 30+ teams to bring the house down. Especially not when you've got a core group of your diehard in-house regular trivia teams showing up to outwit, outsmart and outlast one another in a real no holds barred knockdown trivia challenge.

In honor of their triple digit win tonight, let's break down the history of one of our longest playing teams here at Barney's Santa Monica: Benjamin Quizraeli.

Benny Quiz used to actually be two separate teams. John was a member of Quiz Quiztofferson while Nick and James competed against him as a team with a regularly rotating name. Nick and James are staples of the bar, having formerly worked at a movie theater around the corner in college, and estimate that they've now been playing trivia (or enjoying the flow of alcohol) at Barney's for the past 9 years. John comes in at 7. About two years ago, the members of John's team moved to various parts of the continental United States for their various jobs and John was a one man trivia killing machine. That's no exaggeration - I mean, he didn't kill anyone, but he's very very very good at this game. John is a man who knows his periodic table just as well as he knows his Taylor Swift discography. A white whale like that wasn't going to be floating in the proverbial Barney Ocean for long. And sure enough, Nick and James asked to play - the team was rechristened as Benjamin Quizraeli - and the trio have been kicking ass and taking names ever since. Sadly, Nick is moving to Scotland in September and James is contemplating finally heading north to Seattle in the near future so it appears John will be a free agent once again. But I hear rumblings that Don't Worry Beyonce is looking to make a sizable offer on our trivial Moby Dick...

NOTE: Pictured above, with your willing host, is NOT the first place team but tonight's last place team who mistakenly believed that being "put on the website" may have led to some kind of social media following and fame. Oh, youth.

QUIZ RECAP

What a match! In Round 3, F Off Nerd and Easter Promises went double or nothing and both nailed it - pulling into a tie for 1st Place.  In Round 5, only F Off Nerd went double or nothing and pulled it out.  By Round 7, it looked like F Off Nerd had it.  But in this last round, Easter Promises went double or nothing and scored the win in the final stretch.  King Trivia - a great way to spend an Easter Evening!

And yet, when presented with a picture round all about different dog breeds, you choke.

People.

We need to get it together. We need to embrace these things we love. Man's best friend. Reduced to a measly 4 or 5 points. That should have been an easy choice double or nothing and YOU. KNOW. IT.

Now your Akita doesn't know itself apart from a Chow Chow or a Boxer or a Rottweiler from a Doberman. Do you think all dogs look alike?

Stop liking that doggo account on Insta if you can't even name the very thing you're clicking.

Stop retweeting pictures of those good pups when it actually might be a cat.

We need to focus, trivia friends and fiends. Dogs. Dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs.

Obviously I have a bone to pick with all of you. This was ruff, but we'll try again next week.
