About Bar Charlie

Bar Charlie landed in the North Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle in December 2016. Bar Charlie aims to be a comfortable neighborhood bar featuring beers, food and spirits crafted in the greater Pacific Northwest.

Bar Charlie's interior concept is inspired by the history of the De Havilland Beaver Seaplane and is a mix of actual seaplane parts, wood, concrete and metal.  The walls have photography and art detailing the history of Seaplanes on Lake Union.

Bar Charlie was created by Christian Thomason with mentoring and construction assistance from Chris Navarra.

Bar Charlie evolved out of the desire to do something more than tackle an endless mountain of bureaucratic paperwork.  It’s intended to be a neighborhood gathering spot, a place to unwind with good drinks and food.

It was a full house this week at Bar Charlie! Seven teams stuck it out with some tough competition.

Round 1 had Riff Raff showing off their General Knowledge, starting off strong, while other teams with fewer people didn't have quite as much to show. Our two teams of two both had two points after one round.

The Picture Round this week had a little something for everyone, as long as you know your TV animals.

When Round 3 started and everyone heard the theme was Hawaii, people seemed to think it was going to be light and breezy. But when the questions came out, there was a definite shift. Apparently not everything about Hawaiian life is easy going.

During the Guess Who? round this week, I got more wrong answers than I have ever seen! But it was Love Pit who knew right off the bat that their Alabama roots were finally paying off (+10!), pushing them into the lead.

Round 5 was another game changer, where two teams decided to play Double-or-Nothing, but only one would succeed. Great job finding all the right answers and the connection - With 69 Points scored 20 more points this round, leap-frogging them to the top.

The Matching Round tested the teams on their British slang, which for the most part was successful. However the two most common mistakes went to "Bagsy" (calling dibs) and "Chuffed" (pleased). Looks like we could all use some brushing-up on our English. It's funny how two countries with the same language can get so confused with the meaning behind our words. This was another round where a handful of teams checked off the Double-or-Nothing box, but only Riff Raff made the cut.

It was a tight race at the top going into our final round, and a tough couple of questions. We had some great efforts put forth this round, and everyone had a great time. But at the end of the day, we needed to know who was going to win!

We had a great time with all the teams, OG Pets, Clerin, Electric Kittens, The Little Einsteins, and Love Pit. And a final score TIE between With 69 Points and Riff Raff had to be broken with one final question... "On November 9, 2017, Yuya Yamada broke the record for spinning the largest hula hoop. In feet and inches, what was the circumference of the hula hoop?" Neither team was that close to the actual answer, but all they had to do was be closer than the other team. And so, never one to let anyone slide by without a fight... the winner was Riff Raff! Maybe it was just wishful thinking with a name like With 69 Points, either way, it was so much fun having everyone there, and a ton of energy around the room made this one of the best trivia nights yet.

Let's see if we can top that next week! See you next Tuesday!!

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1* 17940 Riff Raff 49 5 0.917

Seattleites know Summer doesn't officially start here until July 5th, and the weather drove the point home yesterday. The Trivia-goers trickeled in like the rain, but ultimately we had six terrific teams for Tuesday trivia!

Where is Bob? started off the game with a whopping 14 points in Round 1, showing it pays-off to register your team at KingTrivia.com AND go Double-or-Nothing when you know your General Knowledge is solid.

The Picture Round stumped our teams on a few of the "Australian Animal" characters - not a single team got Reginald Koala from American Dad or Buster Moon from Sing! So Round 2 kept the scores pretty consistent from the first round.

In Round 3, Sleeping Booty jumped into the lead with their "pop" theme Double-or-Nothing throw down.

Round 4 was a Guess What? this week, in which we were looking for a famous movie (a nice change from the Guess Who?'s and Guess Where?'s). Although Where is Bob? turned in a wrong answer this round, costing them 1 point, they still remained in their 2nd place running. Then two of the teams turned in their right answers on the 8 point clue, and two more on the 4 point clue, we kept the standings fairly steady.

Our Find the Connection Round this week was a fun one, with a few of the teams getting pretty close, but no one actually reached that perfect 10 (or 20). Two teams tried to double down, but ended up with nothing on Round 5. The most commonly missed question being #6, unfortunately Serbia did NOT win the Beach Volleyball gold in 2016 as most teams thought... it was Water Polo!

Turning the page to Round 6, matching the films with their voiceover narrator, all I can say is our six teams did better than I would have done on my own. Where is Bob? even got all 10 matches correct - great work!

And finally, Round 7 asked the teams to name 10 of the 11 countries with the highest Islamic population, which was also a tough round. Our smarty teams for the most part got either 6 or 7 of the correct countries!

In the end it was Sleeping Booty who took home the win in 1st place! In 2nd was Where is Bob? and I did find out that Bob eventually showed up to support his namesake team (great job, Bob!). And 3rd place went to Quizzards of Oz.

Big thanks also to newcomers, Just Here for the Whiskey, Two's Company, and White Ham - it wouldn't have been the same without you!

See you all again next week!

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1 17705 Sleeping Booty 55 5 1.000
2 10130 Where is Bob? 45 4 0.800
3 19671 Quizzards of Oz 39 3 0.600
4 White Ham 34 2 0.400
5 Two's Company 33 1 0.200
6 Just Here For the Whiskey 31 0 0.000

What a night for trivia at Bar Charlie! We had 8 amazing teams join us this week, and some great competition.

Round 1 started out with some General Knowledge questions that had a few teams scratching their heads. As has become the trend, teams taking the lead were also those who are registered on KingTrivia.com to get those 2 bonus points and start the game off right!

The Picture Round asked teams to identify the TV show based off a picture of a teacher from that show. TWO teams doubled down on this round, bringing Riff Raff and Quiz on Your Face into the top two spots, while Pilsner Puzzlers should have also checked that double-or-nothing box to keep up.

In Round 3, we had our 8th team join in - thanks for agreeing to play, Nailed It! We had a lot of 4's scored this round and a couple of 5's, but for the most part, the teams kept their rankings steady.

The Guess Who round (Round 4) had Nailed It earning their name, by being the first team to turn in their correct answer, while the rest took 1 or 2 more clues to figure out who we were describing. Great job!

Round 5, Find the Connection appeared to be the toughest round of the night, with all the teams taking extra time to discuss their answers and figure out what that Connection was. Scores this round ranged from 3-8 points, with Risk it for the Biscuit topping this round.

The Matching Round up next might have been the best - Matching the Catchphrase with the TV character who said it. Six out of our eight teams decided to go Double-or-Nothing on this round, and it paid off for five of them! While N.A.* should have doubled down, and Booze + I.Q.'s would have done better if they hadn't, this round was definitely a game changer.

The Round 7 question had many teams upset at the question topic - Nailed It even boycotted the question altogether - something to do with "why should I care about the Kardashians?" and "I'm glad I don't know all of them." But alas, I don't write them, I just read them! Surprisingly, Riff Raff actually got 8 out of 10 on this question, the highest score for this round.

Bringing home the bacon was Riff Raff in 1st place, followed in 2nd by Quiz on Your Face, who only brought the toast, and Risk it for the Biscuit (brought the gravy) in 3rd.

It was so great having 8 teams and a full bar! Hope to see you all again next week! Keep up the great work 🙂
