About Bar Charlie

Bar Charlie landed in the North Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle in December 2016. Bar Charlie aims to be a comfortable neighborhood bar featuring beers, food and spirits crafted in the greater Pacific Northwest.

Bar Charlie's interior concept is inspired by the history of the De Havilland Beaver Seaplane and is a mix of actual seaplane parts, wood, concrete and metal.  The walls have photography and art detailing the history of Seaplanes on Lake Union.

Bar Charlie was created by Christian Thomason with mentoring and construction assistance from Chris Navarra.

Bar Charlie evolved out of the desire to do something more than tackle an endless mountain of bureaucratic paperwork.  It’s intended to be a neighborhood gathering spot, a place to unwind with good drinks and food.

We had a real roller-coaster of quiz this week at Bar Charlie. The Smooth Hands Crew and Karen took an early lead in Round Two by hitting the Double or Nothing. It was short lived though, because in Round Three, QuizKnows, 11 points out of First Place, Double or Nothing-ed their way into Second Place, only be out Double or Nothing-ed (it's a verb now, I'm declaring it) by Soccer Moms who rocketed to First by ONE POINT! From there it was pretty much a three-way brawl with the game up for grabs going into the Final Round - shockingly, the 6 competing teams decided to buck the precedent set by the previous three weeks and NOT end the night with a tie-breaker! (but what they lacked in ties, they more than made up in cute pooches- I even managed to catch a picture of one!). In the end it was Soccer Moms taking First Place, with The Smooth Hands Crew and Karen, and QuizKnows following close behind for Second and Third, respectively. This week was indeed a roller coaster. Who knows what carnival ride next week will bring? (My money is on the Tilt-A-Whirl... I love the Tilt-A-Whirl)

Hello hello! Another tight game throughout most of Tuesday's quiz at Bar Charlie with only handful of points between the TEN TEAMS competing. After a tough Guess Who Round (with only one team not taking the -1-point hit), the gap started widening, but not by much. Coming into the final round we had 5 teams with only 6 points between them! At the end of the night Team #2 took 1st Place by only ONE POINT.

And we had ANOTHER TIE for 2nd Place between Always Bring Your Chuck and K2 (K2 ultimately won out- congrats). This time it was a normal two-way tie with one tie breaking round, unlike last week's three-way tie with two tie breaking rounds, which I'm sure people will be up in the mountains singing folk songs about for decades to come.

Two weeks and two ties? Perhaps this is destiny. Or a stunning coincidence. Find out if the trend continues next week, 7pm, at Bar Charlie!

OH! Also mountain folk song worthy...? Bar Charlie currently has Elysian pumpkin ale on draught- 'tis the season! ...or at lease a season.

It was a great Tuesday night of trivia at Bar Charlie. We had eight- EIGHT TEAMS in a packed room! The first couple of rounds were in tight contention... and that's when the Double or Nothings kicked in. From then on there wasn't one round where at least two teams didn't Double or Nothing when it was in play! All this culminated in Team 5-1-0 taking a strong lead in Round 5 and ultimately taking First Place with a whopping 74 points! (Wow, high risk really DOES equal high reward!) 5-1-0's win was about the only thing that was decisive last night, because there was three-way tie for Second Place. THREE teams with 52 points! But that's not all, two of the three tied teams with the closest number had the same answer for the tie-breaking question, which meant our three-way tie was whittled down to a two-way tie forcing ANOTHER TIE-BREAKER! I don't know what kind of statistical gymnastics were involved for that to happen, but it must have been a spectacular parallel bar routine. In the end K? took the Second Place prize and (ironically) Team #2 took Third. I don't know what kind of wackiness is in store for next week, but I'm excited to find out! And next Tuesday night, you can too- join us!
