Quizzes these days are starting to get a vibe of a high school reunion. People you used to know that you haven't seen for a while and you're almost able to pick up right where you left off. It's so nice to see teams jump back into the fray of quizzing after such a long and unwelcome hiatus.
We also had a great time with quizzing and our Rocky Mountain Oyster crew learned the truth regarding the travesty that is known as Manhattan Clam Chowder. Our crew was surprisingly good at devilish TV & Movie characters and easily cracked the connection in round 5. Confidently named America's hottest professional sports hotbeds.
When it comes to Ridley Scott, though, there was a great deal of grumbling. It's not like Ridley Scott is a name that quickly rolls off the tongue when naming great directors. But, at the end of the day, his track record is pretty darn good. Blade Runner, Alien, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down...all timeless classics. Want some fun/feelgood type flicks? Check out Thelma & Louise, Matchstick Men, The Martian or even Legend. Got a couple hours to kill and don't mind wasting them watching a movie? Hannibal, Kingdom of Heaven, Body of Lies, Robin Hood, A Good Year, Alien: Covenant, GI Jane are all good choices. Look at American Gangster or All The Money In The World for some Oscar bait.
Great job overall. Lots of aggressive plays tonight. Most didn't pay off, but it's nice to know that you all have so much self confidence.
It was a dark and stormy night. What a tasty drink that is. Ginger beer is the secret ingredient that makes everything right with the world. Also, there was a bit of wind and rain that tried (but failed) to dampen our spirits. I guess having La Baja Fish Tacos & Grill on site brightens everyone's day.
We had an exciting quiz tonight, with the lead changing hands several times and a connection round that just about everyone playing found. When in doubt, guess "Rihanna". Our players weren't so comfortable with characters lunging at them and their ability to identify strange shapes of pasta has been confirmed.
My only regret? I forgot to play Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak" during the quiz. I tried to reinforce the prison theme in honor of Bastille Day, but that was in my queue and never hit the airwaves. Also, I failed to honor the band Bastille for their contributions to society. I'll call it poetic justice for namejacking.
See you all next Tuesday at 7pm for more Tacos and Trivia.

Double Double Toil and Trouble!
We had a fight to the finish in our quiz tonight. We ended up going into overtime, which kept everyone in suspense....suspension bridges that is! We raised a glass to our childhood imaginary friends and welcomed several strange new beings from other parts of our imaginations. Then we capped off the night with pasty pirates and sparkly vampires.
I often recommend that players take the time to enjoy the silver screen. Movies are a key component in most trivia nights. Usually it pays to watch good films. Not necessarily all time classics or French art nouveau, but just solid quality entertainment like The Curse of the Black Pearl. Unfortunately, the Pirates franchise has been in steady decline for he last three (or four) installments and the Twilight "saga" was never world the digital "film" it wasted on someones sim card.
But despite those failings as films, they certainly paid off in trivia value as Multiple Scorgasms cashed in a timely double up to force overtime. Their desperation was forced after Moms Who Drink Plus Some Guy We Picked Up scored an amazing double up of their own, knowing that Jamaica Kincaid indeed fit the connection of "islands".
There are 91 suspension bridges in the USA, by the way. Just in case it comes up in casual conversation.
Come up with something French-y as a team name next week. Let's celebrate France's favorite jailbreak with a bit of flair.
