QUIZ RECAP

It was a packed house tonight at Collision, and in spite of some technical issues (read: quizmaster errors) we had quite the spirited, and close, game. Trivia Trumps Debates jumped out to the early lead, doubling successfully in Round 1 and notching the high score (7) in Round 2 to lead Trebek's Rejects by 7 and #momjeans by 8 after 2 rounds. We had two teams of newcomers tonight, and 4 Beers and a Bux were steady if unspectacular; they threw caution to the wind in Round 7 by trying a double because they were 7 points behind the 3rd place team and took a zero but still finished a respectable 5th. The top 3 were unchanged throughout most of the night until 1st-timers Insert Team Name Here converted a successful double-or-nothing in the Find The Connection round to catapult into 2nd place, just one point behind Trivia Trumps Debates. At the other end of the standings, Limoncello and Slingers were battling to stay out of the cellar; Limoncello nosed Slingers for 6th by a single point. At the top of the standings there was a battle for 1st place, and a battle for 3rd. Trebek's Rejects were in front of #momjeans by 3 after 5 rounds but acted on the old adage "go big or go home"; they went for the double (and the lead) in Round 6 and ended up taking a zero, eventually finishing 4th, 1 point behind #momjeans. Meanwhile newbies Insert Team Name Here had closed to within a point of the lead but both they and Trivia Trumps Debates each scored 8 & 7 in rounds 6 & 7; Trivia Trumps Debates held on to win by a point while Insert Team Name were left to ponder the 2 points they left on the table by not registering their team.

It was an SRO crowd tonight, let's do it again next week before we break for Thanksgiving!

4-Way Stop jumped out in front with 6 and 7 in Rounds 1 & 2 to score 13 of a possible 16; Limoncello hit 5 out of 6 in Round 1 but went for a double-or-nothing, and that zero left them climbing uphill all night. #momjeans and 4-Way Stop were high scorers in Round 3 with 4 points each,leaving the Moms 2 points back of the leaders in 2nd. In the Guess Who Round, 3 teams declined to turn in and 2 guessed wrong to score -1; only the Wet Dream Catchers, comprised tonight of Dan by himself, answered correctly (scoring 2 points). At this point 4-Way Stop led #momjeans by a single point, with Brown Chicken Brown Cow and newcomers Slingers tied for 3rd, 4 points off the lead. #momjeans scored 9 of a possible 10 in the Find The Connection round, including being the only team to correctly guess the theme (Piano Man lyrics); they passed 4-Way Stop for the lead while Brown Chicken and Slingers remained tied for 3rd. #momjeans were high scorers in Round 6 (along with Wet Dream Catchers) with 5 points, giving the ladies a 4-point cushion entering the final round. Surprisingly, the U2 studio album list proved to be quite a stumper in this crowd. Dan of WDC proudly took a 0 while 4 other teams could name only 1 U2 record; incredibly, 1st-timers Slingers were high scorers with 2!! #momjeans were deserved winners, 4 points in front of 4-Way Stop; a tip of the cap to newbies Slingers, who were never high scorers (until Round 7) but were consistent throughout to finish 3rd. I hope to see them, and all y'all, back next week!

We were back in business at Collision tonight, with an excellent turnout to boot. Trebek's Rejects set the tone for the evening by hitting a successful double-or-nothing in Round 1 to jump 7 points clear of the pack; the picture round was CLEARLY too easy, as every team got them all right....and every team doubled!! (a first in my experience). The Rejects, #momjeans, Trivia Trumps Debates and 4-Way Stop each scored 5 (of a possible 6) in Round 3, leaving #momjeans and Trivia Trumps Debates tied for 2nd and still 7 points off the lead; 4-Way Stop, Limoncello and Wet Dream Catchers were all tied for 4th at this point, a further 2 points back. Limoncello and Wet Dream Catchers each took a -1 in the Guess Where round, dropping them out of contention for the night; interestingly, those two teams had identical scores in rounds 4, 5, 6 & 7 and finished tied for 5th. Trivia Trumps Debates had the high score (8) in the Guess Where round, hats off to them.

Sadly they dropped down in the standings after a scorer's decision in Round 5; I had no choice but to give them a 0 after they attempted a double-or-nothing and answered the Donald Duck question with "Fantasia". Had no one else correctly answered "Fantasia 2000" I might have been inclined to give it to them but those are 2 distinct films and only one was described in the question. Limoncello and Wet Dream Catchers were high scorers (along with leaders Trebek's Rejects) with 9 in Round 5; indeed the Rejects at least tied for high score in all but 1 round and cruised home by an 11-point margin. Trivia Trumps Debates rebounded from their zero with 16 of a possible 20 in the last 2 rounds but 4-Way Stop held them off to claim 3rd place by a point; #momjeans were strong wire-to-wire to finish 1 point in front of 4-Way and take 2nd.

It seems unlikely there will be a game on Halloween but we will be back in 2 weeks to do it all over again!
