It was another great turnout at Collision Brewing this week, for the special "Birthday edition" of King Trivia...and yes, we brought enough cake for everyone!
Greenland Realty and Trebek's Rejects were the only teams to get all 6 right in Round 1 AND the only teams to convert a double-or-nothing in Round 2; this set the tone for the evening as those 2 teams battled for 1st place all night (though 4-Way Stop did get all 8 right in Round 2!). Gold vs. Gold and Twivia each doubled successfully in the theme round (#3) to stay within hailing distance of the lead, but the top 2 teams pulled away down the stretch to separate themselves from the field. Rejected Llamas were steady and provided much of the comic relief on the night (their creativity when they don't know the correct answer never disappoints!), and hats off to first-timers Limoncello , who scored a 6 (of 8) in Round 2 and 7 (of 10) in Round 5.
Greenland Realty were the only team to correctly "Guess Who" for 8 points, and that was the difference on the night. That answer moved them 3 points in front of Trebek's Rejects after 4 rounds. The Rejects made up 2 points in Round 5 (9-7), and both teams answered all 10 correctly in the handout round (#6), leaving them separated by a single point entering the final round. Greenland Realty outscored Trebek's Rejects 7-6 in Round 7 to win for the 2nd consecutive week, this time by 2 points; Gold vs. Gold claimed 3rd place comfortably, well in front of 4-Way Stop (who never recovered from a -1 in the Guess Who round).
It was a great game, it was a great night, and I thank all the players for singing Happy Birthday to both me AND my wife, it was a night we won't soon forget. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend, everyone, see you next week!

What a night at Collision! We had the best turnout ever: 9 teams, 52 players, all tables filled, we even had to sit one team at the bar (and turn away some late comers)! On top of that there was a tie for 1st after 7 rounds...between two teams of first timers! The manager of Collision was so happy, he threw in a six-pak of Collision beer for each of the top 3 teams!
The teams were tightly bunched all night; 4 teams scored 5 and 4 scored 4 right out of the gate in Round 1 (newcomers 3 Gen started slowly but finished with a bang!). First-timers Free Chicken Free Beer notched a 7 (of a possible 8) in Round 2, with Brown Chicken, Brown Cow scoring 6; no fewer than 5 teams scored 5 points and no one scored less than 4. Trebek's Rejects and newcomers Greenland Realty each doubled for 12 points in Round 3 to move into 1st and 2nd positions respectively, and Round 4 saw 4 Way Stop leapcGreenland into 2nd by correctly answering the 10-point "Guess What" clue. No fewer than 6 teams got all 10 right in the Find The Connection round, with 5 of them (#momjeans, Our Drinking Team Has A Trivia Problem, Gold vs. Gold, Free Chicken &) doubling. After 5 rounds, 4 Way Stop led Free Chicken by 2 points & Gold vs.Gold by 4 but 6 teams were within 8 points of the lead. Greenland Realty hit a successful double in the Handout Round to jump into 1st place,1 point in front of 4 Way Stop and 2 points ahead of Free Chicken Free Beer; entering the final round, 6 teams were within 5 points of the lead. Free Chicken's 9 points left them in a tie for 1st with Greenland Realty (which scored 7); 4 Way Stop, Gold vs. Gold and Trebek's Rejects each scored 5, leaving 4 Way Stop to hang on to 3rd place while Gold nosed out the Rejects by a point for 4th. Hats off to 3 Gen for being the only team to get all 10 answers right in the final round, and for doubling to boot!
All that was left was to determine a winner, and Greenland Realty's guess was off by more than 200, while Free Chicken Free Beer were within 20 to win; both teams (along with 4 Way Stop) scored a sixer of Panzer Vienna Lager. It was a well-played game all around, and an excellent night at Collision. See you next week for the special Birthday edition!
What a night at Collision Brewing! We had the best turnout yet, helped by a party of 10 who stumbled upon our game...and registered and played! In fact we had 2 new teams register tonight,with 8 teams total and 49 players! The game itself was VERY well contested and featured some remarkably high final scores. There were 4 teams within 8 points of one another vying for 2nd place, as the night belonged to #momjeans from the jump.
Four teams correctly answered all 6 questions in the first round (though none doubled), and #momjeans parlayed a successful double-or-nothing in the picture round into a lead they would never relinquish. The ladies (along with Trebek's Rejects) "settled" for 5 of a possible 6 in the Theme Round (Our Drinking Team Has A Trivia Problem were the only team to score 6) but followed that with 10 points in both rounds 4 & 5 (the first team in recent memory to successfully "Guess Who" on the 10-point clue). Trebek's Rejects used a successful double in Round 5 to briefly close to within 4 points of the lead, but #momjeans put the pedal down with a successful double in the handout round and the high score of 8 in Round 8 (equaled by newcomers The Love Boat) to coast to victory.
Some thoughts on tonight...both Brown Chicken, Brown Cow and Butterbeer Beaches played exceedingly well tonight (with scores of 54 & 53 respectively) and finished out of the money! Both Rejected Llamas and newcomers 4 Way Stop were steady and finished with score that would normally be close to the top. First-timers The Love Boat were also very good but twice learned the painful lesson of getting 9 of a possible 10 right but yielding 0 points by doubling.
In the end Trebek's Rejects (back after missing last week to attend the Billy Joel concert) were a strong 2nd, edging ...Trivia Problem by 2 points. But #momjeans turned in a remarkable performance. They scored 5 of a possible 6 in the Theme Round, and 8 of a possible 10 in the final round; otherwise they correctly answered every question in 5 of the 7 rounds, doubling twice. What's more, they scored 77 points out a mathematically possible 122 (7 successful doubles +the 2 bonus points), the best single night I've witnessed; hats off to you, ladies!
