Wow! Now that's what we call competition! We had a two-way tie for first place last night at Golden Road Brewery in Glendale last night, and a three-way-tie for third!! Wowzers!!

The delightful quartet of Harriet & The Spies (photos 1&2 above) barely edged out one of our favorite and most formidable teams, The Bad Explainers to win the night, and the $50 gift certificate. A $35 certificate for 2nd went to the Explainers! Congratulations, kids!

In an even more fraught and hard-fought battle, Dj Roomba managed to squeak by Long Live Johnny Trinh (who definitely lives!) and I Drink and I Know Things (who definitely knew things, and was almost certainly drinking!) to take third place and $25. Honorable mention to Tesla Libre, who finished just one point shy of making it a four-way tie for third! Great job all around, you accomplished quizzers!

This humble quizmaster always takes note of funny, witty or otherwise amusing team names, and I'm a BIG fan of a well-executed portmanteau. So I just gotta give a shout out to Guantanamo Bay City Rollers for their chuckle-inducing name. And the thought of a singing group called Jango and the Fetts brought a smile to my face as well! Well done!!

We just gotta give a shout out to Mary and the Birthday Buds. Mary turned 25 last night, opted to celebrate with beer and trivia, and did pretty well. Heck, they even won the drinking round! Happy birthday, Mary. You have excellent friends!

And lastly, a big shout out to At 98 We All Rotate. Why? Because they were the youngest players in the house, were cuter than anyone else in the room (for proof, see photo #4 above) and big sister, at ten years old, was invaluable in helping her mom, Blair, identify songs in the music round.

QUIZ RECAP

If you want some of the stiffest trivia competition around, then look no further than the teams at Golden Road Brewery on a Tuesday night.  These folks take every single ounce of trivia seriously and boy do they mean it.  Double down after double down sent shockwaves through the scoresheet, nearly tearing it to threads as this humble quizmaster could hardly keep up with the flurry of points flying overhead.  So who took home the gold?  Why, it could be no one but The Bad Explainers, rocketing high into the 80s.  So who took home the drinking round?  Casually Drinking Til it's Not knew so much about Disneyland rides you'd think they were related to ol' Cryo-Walt himself.  So who sat alone at the bar by himself when his friends ditched him and continued to play anyway, undaunted by the size and amount of the teams?  Blake, that's who!  This man, in the face of such heavy competition, staggered on with courage, and he deserves a special shoutout here.  Good on you, Blake!  Good on you.

The thing about a King Trivia quiz is that, on any given night, anyone can win. You never know what you might know, or what the quiz might ask. The quiz content changes every night, so there's always a chance.

So You're Sayin' There's a Chance? found this out the easy way by winning this week's quiz at Golden Road Brewery in Atwater Village. They did it in style! They did it with panache! But most of all, they did it, AND SO CAN YOU!!

Second Place honors went to Kara's Dirty Thirty, who opted to celebrate their friend Kara's 30th b-day with burgers, brews and a tremendous 80-point quiz win! That's Kara on the right in photo #1 above. She doesn't look particularly dirty in that shot, but who knows what naughtiness might have transpired after the show?

Quiztian Slater finished third, just ahead of #squadgoals and Papa's Got a Brand New Bag, who tied for Fourth Place with a strong 68 points.

We can't finish this recap without mentioning that it was also Justine's Birthday, and her team put up a good fight with their 51 points and insouciant swagger. That's Justine's boyfriend in phot #2 above. And if that ain't insouciant swagger, well I just don't know what is!

It's always a great time on the side lawn at Golden Road. If you haven't experienced it yet, you really oughta! But come early! It's an SRO experience for those who come too late! You've been warned.
