I've deleted the phone numbers of all the Germans I know from my mobile phone. Yup, that's right! My phone is now Hans free.
Hans Free! Oh, man! I just crack myself up sometimes!
Okay, so there are times when I encounter a team name and find myself wondering how it is that some food company hasn't taken advantage of the brilliant marketing opportunity it represents. Such was the case this week at Golden Road Brewery in Glendale, when I was delighted every time I read the name Fleetwood Mac and Cheese.
I mean, come on, Kraft foods! Cantcha just imagine a commercial that features Stevie Nicks touting the delicious cheesiness of Fleetwood Mac and Cheese, while a slightly rewritten "Don't Stop Thinkin' About Tomorrow's Dinner" plays in the background? No? Okay. You can go your own penne.
Actually, last night's trivia quiz sparked lots of interesting question in this quizmaster's mind. Especially the Round Two picture round, which featured eight prominent people with "Gordon" in their names. Featured among the group was Mercury astronaut Gordon "Gordo" Cooper, who Gold Team Rules identified as "Gordon Gordon."
Coulda been worse. Team Weebz, who clearly had their heads in outer space on this one, took a wrecking ball to the answer sheet and said he was Miley Cyrus!
Like I said, we have questions. Perhaps we'll get some answers when we meet again next week on Golden Road's side yard patio. See ya there!
A handsome but shy zombie wanted to ask a sexy witch out on a date, but he just couldn't do it. He had butterflies in his stomach...and worms...and maggots...
"Oh yeah! We got our mojo back," said a confident member of Sister Act: Dark Web (photo #2 above) to this quizmaster last night at Golden Road Brewery in Glendale. You can understand his sense of assurance. After all, his team not only won the night's quiz with an incredible score of 93. They also won the drinking round.
The Sisters finished in the top spot two weeks ago, and in 3rd place the week before that. So, yeah, that's a bit of trivia excellent mojo on display right there.
I wanted to congratulate him, and acknowledge his team's high level of performance. I wanted to validate his sense of assurance and certitude. I felt they had earned it. But what to say? How to word it to really put a cherry on their sundae?
"Well yes," I replied. "That was pretty impressive," I allowed. "And a HUGE improvement over your 9th place finish last week and your 16th place finish that one night in early September. So, good job!" I said.
Positive reinforcement! That's the kind of guy I am!
See ya next week!
There are few nights as glorious as Halloween. However, some of us have to work in the morning, so we get our trivia in on the weekend. That was the mood tonight at Golden Road Brewery as thirteen teams united for two hours of intense, Slasher Film related trivia.
Epic undersells the torrid story of this battle. This was a fight to survive, a war of wit and will. Monsters and villains beset our heroes as they sought the knowledge to some of the most difficult questions this Quizmaster has ever asked. To say these were deep cuts would be the understatement of the year. If you didn't bring your A-game, you weren't taking home the prizes this time.
Slasher Film Themed night kicked off with a bang, throwing the teams into a blender of every horror film of the past forty years. After a few rounds, the teams began to separate into distinct groups: Those who came to play, and those who came to win!
The drinking round, a hearty staple of Golden Road, tasked our teams with divining the theme songs to several Halloween movies. After a quick tie-breaker round, Golden Ghouls took a pitcher of beer for their table.
Coming into the final stretch, we had around half the room within spitting distance of first place. That brought us to round 7...a who's who of the Halloween franchise.
Here's where things get interesting, true believers. With a bold (and beautiful) double down, one team jumped themselves into a THREE-WAY TIE for 1st place. It was a first for this QM, I'll tell you.
And so it became a tie-breaker. Three teams competing for the gold. And just in case you thought the killer was dead after round seven, you clearly don't know the genre. We had one final surprise.
Our third place winner guessed tragically low. Our second place winner was only a few points above. But our first place winner, the Golden Ghouls, guessed the EXACT ANSWER for the tie-breaker.
And so, another Slasher Theme Event came to an end. 13 teams absolutely crushed this trivia session. There were no losers tonight (especially since a certain QM brought a bucket of candy for everyone).
