About The Famous Bar

The Famous craft cocktail lounge is located in Glendale's historic Huntley-Evans building, directly across the street from the Americana at Brand. It follows an eclectic and rich pedigree of establishments that have called this building home in the last century, most notably the early Glendale landmark, The Famous Department Store. The Famous, true to its heritage, embraces the classic art of fine craft cocktail creation, invented in the United States in 1856, using bitters, juices, syrups, and infusions, prepared in-house using fresh ingredients from local markets and growers. Cocktails served at The Famous are identical to those served nearly 100 years ago when the building was constructed.

It was a big, BIG trivia night at The Famous in Glendale this week, as no fewer than 16 teams packed the joint for a raucous round of King Trivia excellence.

Fresh from their fine showing at the 2018 Edition of King Trivia's Tournament of Champions, Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink swept away all competition with an impressive (and insurmountable) 85 points!

The lovely ladies (and a gentleman) of Yer a Quizard Harry were close on their heels all evening, and finished with a more-than-respectable 73 to take 2nd.  And a well-executed double-or-nothing move in the 5th Round gave The Barrelers 3rd place with 65.

Gentle Sweaters were first runners up in 4th, due to a missed opportunity to double in the 5th. Hey guys...you know what they say: no guts, no glory!!

BEFORE THE GAME:

Tim the Quizmaster works the room, stopping at every table to say hi and invite patrons to play the King Trivia quiz: "Hi! Are you gonna quiz wit us tonight?"
Them: "We don't know anything about it. How's it work?"
TtQM: "Tonight is trivia night here at The Famous. It costs nothing to play, and you can win good prizes. I ask questions. You write down answers in this book. I keep score. You win prizes! Easy!! Wanna give it a try?"
Them (him): "I dunno. I'm not always very good at this sort of thing..."
Them (her): "Oh, that sounds like fun! Let's play..."
TtQM: "Tell ya what...I'll just leave this answer book and pen here, and if you decide to play, you can jump in any time."

AFTER THE GAME:

Them (him): "That was great! I'm glad you talked us into playing."
TtQM: Didja have fun? I thought you would..."
Them (her): "Oh! So much fun! We'll definitely be back next week!"

King Trivia...making new friends and creating enthusiastic quizinators wherever we go!

It was a night of missed opportunities for several teams this week at The Famous on Brand in Glendale.

Electric Moustache answered all questions correctly in both the 2nd and 6th rounds, but opted not to go for the double. Those missed 16 points...well, now that I've done the math, I see that those extra 16 points would not have enabled them to catch our formidable first place finisher, Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink. So, not really a missed opportunity, I guess.

Our good friends The Barrelers aced the round 5 Find the Connection round, but also chose not to double. And in this case, those extra 10 points would have catapulted them up over the Moustaches, and into second place. So, yes, a missed opportunity there.

Of course, if both The Barrelers and Electric Moustache had seixed the double-or-nothing opportunities, they would have ended up...yup...exactly where they ended up. Life - and trivia quizzes - are fickle.

On a separate note, we were happy to help Sarah (photo 5) celebrate her 23rd birthday this week. She was a delight, especially when she finished off that 3rd margarita and started trash talking all the other teams! Which was fine, until she started throwing wet paper towels at the competition!!

I'm lying about the trash talk and the wet paper towels, but Sarah was a true delight, and we look forward to seeing her - and you - soon for another rousing night of King Trivia.
