It's a GREAT time to be alive! If there's one thing that can be said about King Trivia quiz-lovers (and we all know there are many things that could be said about us) it's that we are culturally aware! We are hip; with it; tuned in; ahead of the curve. In fact, I heard members of third-place finisher Electric Moustache say exactly that last night. (They were a little full of themselves after finishing in the top three, so a little self-aggrandizement seemed acceptable.)
Nothing gets past them - or us - am I right!? Of course I am! And who among us isn't delighted with the cultural trend that is destined to be the next big thing. I speak, of course, of Mantyhose! For far too long, men have been denied the pleasures, and leg-accenting features, of a good pair of pantyhose. But not anymore!!
If this trend catches fire like I expect it to, our second place team, Gentle Sweaters, may have to update their team name by switching to a different garment. "Gentle Hosers" perhaps? No, wait. Never mind. That really doesn't work at all.
But mantyhose are undeniably awesome, and those hose pair up nicely with the equally awesome new Romphims, which are, obviously, rompers...for him - which means US, guys!! Why has it taken so long for these fashion choices to become available to fashion forward men?
I can't answer that, but I do know that if you're gonna live your life as a fashion-forward style-ista, like our first-place winners That's Jude Law Dancing Down The Street do, you'll want your Romphims to be entirely made of lace in a pastel color! Damn right!
Okay, seriously. I don't know if anyone is going to embrace these new sartorial options. But we celebrate free expression in any form, and in a world as disrupted and disturbed as ours seems to be just now, we welcome any and all amusing and stimulating statements of independence and individuality.
More significantly, in celebrating both diversity and free expression, we wish everyone a very happy and celebrative LA Pride Weekend. Seriously - the world has gotten darker. Embrace the light. Cry Freedom!
See ya next week.
Imagine, if you will, that you have the same dinner every Thursday night. Pasta carbonara. A thick, creamy sauce that has bits of bacon and other goodness mixed in. You have your noodles cooked just the way you like them. And a nice bottle of vino to cap it off.
Every Thursday, you eat it on the same patio, at the same table, with the same utensils. It's delicious and predictable. You love Thursdays.
And then one day, you're eating your usual meal and you look up and realize 'I'm not in the same place. Who are all these people around me?' It feels so familiar, but so very different.
That's what it's like being a guest trivia host. You know how to run a trivia show, but with a whole different surrounding, it can be a bit intimidating.
I want to thank the wonderful people of the Famous Bar for making me feel at home on a Thursday night. No, it wasn't my usual, but it was a delicious - I mean wonderful - time hosting King Trivia.
You'll be back to your usual next week, and I'll be back to mine, but never forget June 1!

* Won Tiebreaker
Imagine a trivia night wherein your team is augmented by dozens of happy, informal "contributors." That was pretty much the situation this week at The Famous in Glendale.
The bar has a sister location, underground and just a few steps away on Brand Blvd. called The Moose Den. (note: it is every bit as cool as The Famous - check out their awesome comedy shows on selected Sunday nights.)
Well, the Moose was hosting a private event this week, so their usual patrons came upstairs and filled The Famous to near capacity just as Thursday Night Trivia was getting underway.
These newcomers, unfamiliar with our game though they may have been, quickly became enthusiastic "contributors" to many of our teams. They were undaunted by the fact that many of their suggested answers were incorrect, and their presence did nothing to deter Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink from once again finishing in the top spot.
The Barellers and Yer a Quizard Harry rounded out our top three, but everyone was a winner this week, as the trivia quiz was imbued with a definite party vibe.
See ya next week!
