About The Famous Bar

The Famous craft cocktail lounge is located in Glendale's historic Huntley-Evans building, directly across the street from the Americana at Brand. It follows an eclectic and rich pedigree of establishments that have called this building home in the last century, most notably the early Glendale landmark, The Famous Department Store. The Famous, true to its heritage, embraces the classic art of fine craft cocktail creation, invented in the United States in 1856, using bitters, juices, syrups, and infusions, prepared in-house using fresh ingredients from local markets and growers. Cocktails served at The Famous are identical to those served nearly 100 years ago when the building was constructed.

Well this is awkward. Last week, I lamented the incredible dominance of repeat winners Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink, who combine winning with harassment of the quizmaster. I implored you all to come on out and knock BJWLUD down a peg or two. IMPLORED you! BEGGED you!

So whaddaya s'pose happened? That's RIGHT! They won AGAIN, dagnabbit! And they rubbed salt in the wound by winning the drinking round, too!! Sheesh.

I hoped that 2nd place finishers Shapey Town might have what it takes to get the job done. And they nearly did but, alas, fell short in the end.

I secretly offered correct answers to Electric Mustache (3rd place; photo #3 above) and the lovely ladies of Yer A Quizzard Harry (photo #1 above), but they declined, citing "ethics" and "fairness." The Quizzard women even suggested that only someone like Voldemort would encourage such mendacity.

So in the end, I have no choice but to congratulate BJWLUD again, and offer my grudging admiration for these smug, self-satisfied winners!

P.S. The good people of Electric Mustache and Yer a Quizzard, Harry are right. It was wrong of me to offer assistance of any kind! I'm sooooo ashamed. So, if you're thinking of coming in next week to take a shot at the formidable Jeopardy crew, do NOT e-mail me at timbarkas@yahoo.com for help. DO NOT!! That would be wrong!

Would somebody please knock Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink off of their perch at the top of our weekly leaderboard!? For the third week in a row, those Jeopardy lushes have retained the King Trivia first-place crown!

This wouldn't bother me any other time. But late in last night's quiz, while delivering their fifth-round, Find the Connection answer sheet, one of their brethren said to me, "Here's a connection: YOU'RE no Alex Trebeck!!"

Now I suppose this wouldn't have hurt so much, except a little while later, Chris from The (third place) Barrelers says to me, "and ya know what ELSE!? You're no Pat Sajak, EITHER!

Oh yeah!? You think Pat Sajak is all that and a bag of chips!? Take a look at THIS!!

Ya know, there are some questions that just can't be answered. Like, fer instance, these puzzlers:

  4. Why is Chris (from The Barrelers) so damn handsome!?

When it comes to questions that CAN be answered, there's no one better to turn to than a team of King Trivia players, as was demonstrated last night by the good folks of Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink, who both drank and won our regular Thursday night trivia quiz!

We Can't Hear You demonstrated the falseness of their team name, by hearing well enough to come in second. And Yer a Quizzard, Harry completed the troika by eking out a one-point edge over Gentle Sweaters.

A grand night, by any measure! (You'll get that point you needed NEXT Time, Sweaters! Thanks for playing, everyone. We'll see you again next week. In the meantime...

  1. A heart in love has an atomic weight of 196.96657 u ± 0.000004 u (which is the same as gold!) A broken heart - as we all surely know - is much, MUCH heavier.
  2. Are you NUTS!? SnapChat photos never disappear! Even now, they're being stored and studied by agents of the federal government. That's why I'm wearing this aluminum foil hat!!
  3. If I Only Had A Brain, obviously!
  4. There is simply no explanation for Chris' awesomeness. And it's just so unfair!! (I hear he wears tinfoil underwear, and there're SnapChat photos to prove it!)
