About The Famous Bar

The Famous craft cocktail lounge is located in Glendale's historic Huntley-Evans building, directly across the street from the Americana at Brand. It follows an eclectic and rich pedigree of establishments that have called this building home in the last century, most notably the early Glendale landmark, The Famous Department Store. The Famous, true to its heritage, embraces the classic art of fine craft cocktail creation, invented in the United States in 1856, using bitters, juices, syrups, and infusions, prepared in-house using fresh ingredients from local markets and growers. Cocktails served at The Famous are identical to those served nearly 100 years ago when the building was constructed.

- Familiar Idioms that remind us we can't have it both ways!

Hello, friends and fellow quizinators. Today we turn our attention to the pair of oppositional idioms posted herein, above. We say "oppositional" because they do, indeed, stand in stark contrast to each other, exist in a state of perpetual tension, and certainly live in the hearts of any King Trivia quiz participant who has struggled with the Shakespearean question: To double, or not to double?

Such was the case this week at The Famous in Glendale, when our good friends and frequent quiz combatants Electric Mustache passed up chances to double in the 3rd (6 points), 5th (10 points) and 6th (10 points) rounds, thereby surrendering 26 potential points!

In short, they looked...but they didn't leap! They answered all questions correctly, but hesitated on the double. And as we all know so well, he who hesitates finishes in 5th place behind Trivia Kings, Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink, The Barrelers and The Burning Sensations.

That 26 points they opted out of would have put them in FIRST PLACE for the WIN!, which illustrates another trenchant and familiar old saying: "No Guts, No Glory!"

Those consistent hobgoblins that comprise Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink once again demonstrated their formidable brain power by winning our quiz again this week.

Electric Mustache and Yer a Quizard Harry demonstrated impressive consistency as well, finishing in the 2nd and 3rd spots, and providing a strong challenge to the Jeopardy crew.

We think Ralph Waldo got it wrong - at least with the folks that compete in our weekly trivia quiz at The Famous in Glendale. There's not a small mind in the bunch.

That's true for most everyone, except the big-brained smart guys of Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink, who demonstrated their formidable trivia skills once again last night.

The Griffind-Whores and Yer a Quizard Harry did their level best to topple the frequent first-place finishers, and were rewarded for their efforts with gift cards from the bar.

Come on out next week and try your luck against out top teams. Even if you don't win, you'll spend the evening among the smartest, best-looking people in town.

Except for the quizmaster. He's a dork!
